Shane McKay, PrincipalShane McKay, Principal

It is an honor and privilege to serve the students, faculty, and staff of East Central High School.  A large portion of my childhood I grew up around the East Central community and my beautiful wife Jenni graduated from East Central High School.  I have two wonderful children who attend ECISD schools.   I was blessed to be hired in 2005 to teach Biology and coach football and baseball at ECHS.  In 2009, I transitioned into administration and became an assistant principal and then was later named the associate principal in 2010.  At East Central High School we are here to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment that challenges each student to be their best.  We believe in the capacity for all students to learn at high levels and provide meaningful and rigorous courses that prepare them for life beyond high school.  Our mission is to inspire learning by creating interesting and meaningful experiences for every student, every minute, every day.   I love everything about East Central High School, the students, the teachers, the staff, the parents, and the greater community.  I am proud to be a member of this faculty and I will relentlessly serve the entire East Central Family to the best of my ability.
Stacey Fizer, Associate Principal

Hello Hornets!  My name is Stacey Fizer and I am a 1996 graduate of East Central High School.  After high school, I attended Texas Tech University and received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science.  I then attended Southwest Texas State University and got a master’s degree in Agricultural Education.  In 2010, I acquired another master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio. This is my eleventh year in education, seven years as an agriscience teacher and four in administration, and my first year back at East Central.  I am excited to work with all of the students at East Central and proud to be back serving the community who was a part of making me the person I am today!
Gail Pieniazek, Academic Dean

It is my pleasure to serve East Central High School in the position of academic dean.  I came to ECHS in 2000 where I served as a guidance counselor for five years.  In the fall of 2005, I transitioned into my current role as academic dean.  My position allows me to work daily with teachers, students and parents on educational planning, curriculum, assessment and college and career readiness.  I also work on master scheduling, dual credit and the gifted and talented program.  I know each of our students has the capacity to develop into life-long learners and to attain their personal, academic and career goals and it is fulfilling to assist them in that journey.  It is my joy to serve the East Central community every day.
Rene Ferguson, Academic Dean

It is my privilege to serve East Central High School as an Academic Dean. Among my responsibilities are campus coordinator for state testing and to oversee the math department. I have been fortunate to be at ECHS for over 20 years. My first job at ECHS was as a math teacher and head softball coach. I then transitioned into administration and into my current job as Academic Dean. I have earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas State University, as well as a master’s degree in Secondary Education from Texas State University and a Master’s of Arts degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or if I can be of help. Together, we will make it a great year.
John Hernandez, Assistant Principal

I, John Hernandez, began my teaching career by attending the University of Texas at San Antonio where I earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. A few years later I earned a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M Kingsville.
Prior to coming to East Central, I had the opportunity to work in the Pearsall and Killeen Independent School Districts. In 2003, I was fortunate to become a member of the East Central High School family. I was originally hired to teach Diversified Career Preparation and coach football, soccer, and track. In 2009, the opportunity arose for me to transition into an administrative role. A position I have embraced since coming into the role.
In total I have been with the East Central Independent School District for more than a decade. It has been a blessing to serve students, staff, parents, and community members in the capacity of teacher, coach, administrator, and community member.
I embrace our mission, vision, and values. Our administrative team has high expectations for all students. We embrace all challenges and view them as opportunities. Every Student-Every Minute-Every Day is embedded in us.
I will continue to serve our campus and community by committing to be a lifelong learner. I look forward to serving our East Central students, staff, and family with a persistent pursuit in student excellence.
Rene Bailey, Assistant Principal

I was an active duty airman for twenty-five years and I took great pride in wearing the uniform of the United States Air Force. As I transitioned from military life to civilian status, I was looking for the same adventures that I experienced in the military. I have been in the field of education for eighteen years and the last nine years serving the community of East Central High School. My journey started in 1996, as a special education teacher and a coach for football, girls’ and boys’ basketball, track and field.  Although I enjoyed the classroom and loved coaching, I wanted more. In August 2000, as an assistant principal I enter educational administration because I wanted to be a leader of vision, people and purpose. I came to East Central ISD in 2005. It has been a blessing and a great learning experience to work at the high school.
Since coming to East Central High School, I have truly grown professionally due to the fact that I am involved in every aspect of the school community. As in the military, we stood ready to meet all challenges, as a proud member and leader along with faculty and staff we stand ready, willing, and able to face the challenges of educating a diverse community for the 21st century. WE ARE EC!!!!
RayeLynn White, Assistant Principal

What a privilege and honor it is for me to service the students, parents, and community of East Central.  I have been in the district for 13 years.  During this time, I have serve in many different positions from Heritage Middle School to Legacy Middle School, Central Office and now East Central High School.  Watching the students mature and grow into life learners is always an amazing experience.  My daily expectation is to make the students, faculty & staff, parents, and community journey at East Central a pleasure and joyous experience.
Here at the East Central High School, we strive to inspire learning by providing interesting and meaningful experiences for every student-every minute- every day.
Tammy Pinkham, Assistant Principal

Clinton Hartman, Athletic Director

Personal Life

I am an East Central graduate, class of ‘93.  While at East Central I was a 4 sport athlete playing football, basketball, baseball and running track.

After graduating from East Central Coach I went on to college at Hardin-Simmons where I was blessed with the opportunity to play football while earning a bachelors degree.

In 1998 I married my wife Ginger and we now have 3 wonderful children, all girls: Madison, Kodi, and Jetta.

Professional Life

After graduating from Hardin-Simmons I was able to stay in Abilene and coach the secondary for the Coach Jimmy Keeling and the Cowboys.  After 2 years there I went to Tornillo High School as the Defensive coordinator.  My after my tenure there my travels took me to Odessa High School to coach the secondary for a year.  My first head coaching job came at Tulsa School of Science and Technology.

My return to Texas came in 2002 when I was hired as the Defensive Coordinator of the Seguin Matadors.  I spent the next 4 years coaching there.  While there we were able to win a few big ball games including beating Austin Westlake for a district championship and beating New Braunfels high for the first time in 23 years.

In 2006  I was hired as the head coach of Clear Springs High School.  I left Seguin to open this new school and serve as it’s first Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach.  In 5 varsity season we won 3 district championships, made 5 playoff appearances and have 5 seasons of winning records.

In 2013 I was fortunate enough to receive the Athletic Director and Head Football Coaching positions at my alma mater.  It has been a life-long dream of mine to serve this community in this capacity.  I am very excited about the opportunity to help build this program and community.  I believe wholeheartedly that we make better men, women, husbands, wives, fathers, and mothers through competitive athletics.  Our athletic program is driven by our belief in character development. Every athlete participates in weekly character development curriculum throughout the year.  Not only will the athletes in our programs become better people through these efforts, they will become better athletes and competitors. We will see continued and improved success in the athletic arena as a by product of their personal improvements.
Suzette Arriola, Assistant Athletic Director

With over twenty years of teaching and nine years of administration experience, I am now working to help build East Central High School's student-athletes as the Assistant Athletic Director.  Over the years, I have worked many places but in 2007 when I came to East Central, I found a family and a home.
It wasn't until I returned to the Southeast Side of San Antonio that my career came full circle.  At the beginning of my career, I always knew I wanted to return home to the community that helped make me who I am today.  I owe much of my success and desire to impact students to the teachers, coaches, and staff at Highlands High School where I graduated from in 1982.  I have so much pride in Southeast San Antonio and am dedicated to serving the community and making a difference in the lives of our students.
